In this chapter you will be able to find out how to talk about your likes and dislikes of food and drink - well everyone needs to eat and drink, don't they? We will look at meal times in Germany as well as common foods you will find. We will also deal with situations in a restaurant or cafe - how to order and how to deal with problems. And what about grocery shopping - do you know how to ask for products in shops? We'll also cover food packaging and amounts so you can practise asking for things. It's a good idea to have a German dictionary to hand, in case you want to look up any words you don't know. You may also want to take notes for some of the exercises.

We will also think about how you travel to your destination and where you stay. Remember that people from Germany, Austria and Switzerland may come to the UK for a holiday. The title will assist you in your preparation for German speaking and writing assessments, as well as developing your confidence for the reading and listening exams. You could even decide to find out what's on the web about your home town. When listening to the title it's useful to have a pen, paper and German dictionary to hand so you can look up any words you don't know.

You spend many hours each day in school so it's a good idea to be able to talk about what happens there and offer your opinions on it. We'll look at how to describe your school and the subjects you study. You probably also have a lot to say about your uniform, which we'll cover in Chapter Four. This is an excellent topic to prepare for your controlled assessments as you can cover a variety of points and you can also make good use of all three tenses. You may find it useful to have a German dictionary, pen and paper nearby to note down any words you aren't familiar with. So listen carefully and utilise the materials here to help prepare for your exams.
