Great Expectations: Themes
Subjects / English / Charles Dickens - Great Expectations
In this title we will look at the themes of Great Expectations. We will discuss Pip's ambition and his guilt, as well as considering the themes of loneliness, victimisation and Dickens' views on social reform, crime and childhood. It is worth noting that the themes that Dickens explores in his novel reflect the concerns of society at the time he was writing. Many Victorian people were becoming aware of the problems of the poor. Dickens wanted to show that regardless of your social status, you need to be true to yourself, and that wealth and status do not make you a better person.
