This title will look at the characters in An Inspector Calls. The play takes place during a celebratory dinner for the engagement of two of the characters at the family home of the Birlings. Four of the characters are therefore members of the Birling family: Arthur and Sybil Birling, the parents; and Sheila and Eric Birling, their daughter and son. Sheila is to be engaged to Gerald Croft, who is also present as the play begins. Each of these characters will be discussed and, in addition, the character of the Inspector, who interrupts the dinner with the news of the suicide of Eva Smith, will also be examined.
