We can categorise individual countries according to their level of development. The world is divided by the Brandt line, which will be considered in detail in Chapter two. In this title we will learn about the characteristics of MEDCs and LEDCs. We will ask what the level of development means for the people who live in those countries. However, development is a complex topic and the divide between rich and poor is not clear-cut. So how do we categorise countries? How do we know their level of development? This title explains how we can measure development using economic and social indicators.
