The aid varies depending upon the type of hazard. Short-term aid tends to focus on trying to get people out of the immediate danger. This could be moving them away from the risk of a hurricane or rescuing those trapped in a collapsed building caused by an earthquake, and then providing them with essential medical attention. Long-term aid tends to focus on rebuilding people's lives and trying to help reduce the danger that such hazards cause. This title also compares 'grass roots' aid with aid classed as 'top down'. Both of these types of aid can be effective if implemented correctly. We will explore how aid varies between rural and urban areas and also between LEDCs and MEDCs, using examples from each.
