In More Economically Developed Countries, or MEDCs, we often forget how important water is because it is readily available to us and we know it is safe to drink. In Less Economically Developed Countries or LEDCs, people often have to collect their own water, sometimes needing to travel many miles for it. They are sometimes unsure of the quality of their water, and may have no choice other than to drink unsafe water. This can have devastating consequences, such as fatal water-borne diseases like cholera. The demand for water is rising and increasing the need to obtain and store water in some areas, to ensure there is a constant supply. We will look at some of the agency support provided, particularly in LEDCs, such as WaterAid and Oxfam.
